As the Center for Addiction Prevention and Research, we were invited to the 2025–2026 Academic Year Orientation Program organized by the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) Faculty of Communication. The event took place on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Theater Hall. The program was attended by university administrators, faculty academic and administrative staff, and newly enrolled students.

In her opening speech, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Hülya Önal emphasized that the faculty aims not only to provide academic knowledge but also to instill social responsibility and ethical values in students. Highlighting that university life offers a great opportunity for multidimensional personal development, Prof. Önal said, “Our top priority is to educate you as the communicators of the future.”

ÇOMÜ Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Evren Karayel Gökkaya underlined the university’s student-centered educational approach and noted that the interdisciplinary structure of the Faculty of Communication provides a significant advantage for students. She also mentioned that she is a proud graduate of ÇOMÜ herself, emphasizing that holding a ÇOMÜ diploma is a valuable privilege and encouraging students to embrace that sense of belonging.

During the event, faculty departments were introduced. Prof. Dr. Tuğba Elmacı (Head of the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema), Prof. Dr. Şakir Eşitti (Head of the Department of Journalism), and Prof. Dr. Deniz Yengin (Head of the Department of New Media and Communication) informed students about their curricula, academic staff, practical training opportunities, and career paths.

As part of the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pınar Mutlu, Director of the Center for Addiction Prevention and Research, delivered an informative presentation on addiction risks and awareness studies. In addition, Police Officer Murat Cura from the Çanakkale Provincial Police Department’s Anti-Narcotics Branch shared valuable insights with students on preventive measures against substance addiction.

The program concluded with a group photo session following the presentations.

As the Center for Addiction Prevention and Research, we will continue our awareness-based activities with determination.
