The "Don't be an Addict, Be an Athlete" Futsal Tournament, organized by the ÇOMU Application and Research Center for Combating Addiction, started at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMU) Faculty of Sports Sciences Naim Süleymanoğlu Sports Hall.  ÇOMU Rector Prof. Dr. Sedat Murat, Deputy Mayor Mehmet İrfan Mutluay, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Bünyamin Bacak, Prof. Dr. Okhan Akdur, Prof. Dr. Pelin Kanten, Secretary General Ayhan Monus, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences Prof. Dr. Hürmüz Koç, Çanakkale Provincial Director of Youth and Sports Ömer Kalkan, Çanakkale Provincial Disaster and Emergency Manager İbrahim Tarı, academicians and students attended the tournament.

Between December 27, 2021 and January 10, 2022, five matches will be played every day without interruption, 44 teams and 358 athletes will compete in the tournament, which continued with the opening speech of ÇOMU Rector Prof. Dr. Sedat Murat after the silence of respect and the reading of the National Anthem.

ÇOMU Rector Prof. Dr. Sedat Murat emphasized that sports should be an integral part of everyone's life and said:

"I would like to thank Prof. Dr. Hürmüz Koç, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences and Director of the Center, and the board of directors for the event organized by the Center for Application and Research on Combating Addiction. We attach great importance to the fight against addiction. In this context, we hope that such events will continue to increase. I emphasize at every opportunity that sports should be in everyone's life. An individual who does sports has a healthy body. The addictions of our young people should be against sports, science and social responsibilities. Each of us has a responsibility for this.  In today's world, the development in information technologies is very fast. Of course, it is important for our young people to follow these developments.  However, the use of technology, which has become a new addiction, has also captured our youth. We should use technology to conduct scientific studies, produce projects and contribute to our own development."
